Julie began her work with CHAMPS in April 1995. Her primary responsibilities are to oversee the implementation of CHAMPS’ strategic plan and to work with the CHAMPS Executive Committee and Board of Directors to lead the organization in achieving its mission. Julie’s major accomplishments during her tenure with CHAMPS include increased visibility and effectiveness of the Association, increased membership in the Association, increased non-federal and federal revenue of the Association, and increased collaborative partnerships. Julie earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs from The George Washington University in Washington, DC and a Master of Nonprofit Management from Regis University in Denver, CO where she received the Karen Patterson Award for Community/Organizational Change and graduated with Honors. Prior to working for CHAMPS, Julie worked for the Freer and Sackler Galleries of Art/Smithsonian Institution and US Representative Patricia Schroeder. In her free time, Julie enjoys traveling and spending time with her friends, family, and rescued dogs.

Jennifer’s role at CHAMPS is to support the Region VIII Community Health Centers with their clinical quality improvement efforts and work towards best practice by offering clinical educational programming. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Baylor University in Waco, TX and a Master of Public Health Degree in Community Health Sciences with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Joining CHAMPS in 2015, Jen brings ten years’ experience in non-profit management, including leading the development of a startup organization, Mothers’ Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes. Jen is also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and loves to continuously study the amazing properties of human milk. In her free time, Jen enjoys spending time with her husband, two children, and their very energetic dog, Hannah.

Andrea’s focus at CHAMPS is giving Region VIII health centers the tools they need to attract and retain a talented and dedicated workforce as well as serving the additional needs of CHAMPS members. Andrea joined the group in October 2004. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Art, Music, and Museum Studies from Luther College in Decorah, IA, and previously has used her skills at non- and for-profit cultural organizations throughout Denver. When not at CHAMPS, Andrea loves to backpack, climb, garden, paint, play the violin, and especially to enjoy the company of her husband Dusty, daughters Sophie and Asha, and cat Petzl.
Program Specialist, Substance Use Disorder
After serving as the CHAMPS Programs and Communications Coordinator from January 2017 to July 2018, Rachel became the CHAMPS Program Specialist, Substance Use Disorder in September 2018. In this role she develops relevant resources and leads collaborative efforts among the Region VIII State Primary Care Associations and health centers to address substance use disorders and other emerging public health needs. Rachel is currently pursuing her Masters in Public Health with a concentration in epidemiology at the Colorado School of Public Health; she also holds a BA in anthropology and English from the College of William and Mary. Prior to her work at CHAMPS, Rachel served as an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer in the Indian Health Service Clinics on the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming. In her free time Rachel enjoys baking, reading, hiking, and playing the mandolin.

Helen joined CHAMPS in July 2018 and is responsible for spearheading CHAMPS’ Outreach and Enrollment and Special and Vulnerable Populations programs, implementing CHAMPS’ advocacy plan, supporting clinical quality improvement efforts, and otherwise assisting CHAMPS with trainings, data projects, and networking for Region VIII health centers and Primary Care Associations. Helen received a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Lewis & Clark College and a Master of Science in the Politics of Conflict, Rights, and Justice from SOAS, at the University of London. Prior to joining CHAMPS, Helen worked at the Institute for Behavioral Genetics at the University of Colorado as an Assistant Study Coordinator and at Africa Development Promise as a Resource Development Intern. Helen loves to spend her spare time hiking, reading, hosting gatherings, making kombucha, and listening to NPR.
Yael Holzman Castellands

Yael joined CHAMPS in August 2018 and is responsible for facilitating communications between CHAMPS and the health centers of Region VIII, supporting health center staff recruitment, planning distance learning events, and promoting the organization through the CHAMPS website and social media. She also supports additional workforce and member services activities. Yael received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Communications from the University of Connecticut. Prior to joining the CHAMPS team, Yael was an Americorps VISTA at an education non-profit in Denver, where she assisted with communications and marketing. Yael loves to spend her time biking, listening to music, and exploring Colorado.
