Julie Hulstein, MNM

Julie began her work with CHAMPS in April 1995. Her primary responsibilities are to oversee the implementation of CHAMPS’ strategic plan and to work with the CHAMPS Executive Committee and Board of Directors to lead the organization in achieving its mission. Julie’s major accomplishments during her tenure with CHAMPS include increased visibility and effectiveness of the Association, increased membership in the Association, increased non-federal and federal revenue of the Association, and increased collaborative partnerships. Julie earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs from The George Washington University in Washington, DC and a Master of Nonprofit Management from Regis University in Denver, CO where she received the Karen Patterson Award for Community/Organizational Change and graduated with Honors. Prior to working for CHAMPS, Julie worked for the Freer and Sackler Galleries of Art/Smithsonian Institution and US Representative Patricia Schroeder. In her free time, Julie enjoys traveling and spending time with her friends, family, and rescued dogs.

Jen Anderson, MPH
Clinical Quality Improvement Director

Jen’s role at CHAMPS is to support the Region VIII health centers with their clinical quality improvement efforts and work towards best practice by offering clinical educational programming. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Baylor University and a Master of Public Health Degree in Community Health Sciences with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Joining CHAMPS in 2015, Jen brings ten years’ experience in non-profit management, including leading the development of a startup organization, Mothers’ Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes. In her free time, Jen enjoys spending time with her husband, two children, and their very energetic dog, Hannah.

Andrea Martin
Workforce Development & Member Services Director

Andrea’s focus at CHAMPS is giving Region VIII health centers the tools they need to attract and retain a talented and dedicated workforce as well as serving the additional needs of CHAMPS members. Andrea joined the group in October 2004. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Art, Music, and Museum Studies from Luther College in Decorah, IA, and previously has used her skills at non- and for-profit cultural organizations throughout Denver. When not at CHAMPS, Andrea loves to backpack, climb, garden, paint, play the violin, and especially to enjoy the company of her husband Dusty, daughters Sophie and Asha, and dog Roxy.

Courtney Howell
Programs Coordinator, Membership & Communications

Courtney joined the CHAMPS team in October 2022. In her role, she is responsible for CHAMPS communication and marketing efforts, and provides support for members and other CHAMPS activities. Courtney graduated from Lafayette College in 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs, and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Her studies and volunteering experiences, both national and international, led her to Madagascar, South Africa and Spain, where she interacted directly with the local communities. Before joining CHAMPS she worked as the Assistant Program Manager for a nonprofit based in Washington, D.C. She moved to Denver in 2021, and since has taken advantage of all that the city has to offer. In her free time Courtney enjoys volunteering, rock climbing, skiing, hiking, camping and exploring the city and surrounding areas.

Kathryn King
Programs Coordinator, Population Health

Kathryn joined CHAMPS in April 2022. In her role, Kathryn focuses on promoting health equity, including supporting special and vulnerable populations and outreach and enrollment initiatives, as well as supporting CHAMPS’ clinical and quality improvement programs. She possesses a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Penn State University. During her time at Penn State, she worked with local non-profit and philanthropic groups to connect her community with local resources and healthcare funding. In her free time, Kathryn enjoys listening to music, hiking, and spending time with friends.

Caroline Sorge
Programs Coordinator, Summer Intern

Caroline joined the CHAMPS team in June 2023. In her role, Caroline is responsible for supporting CHAMPS programs related to health center workforce development, wellness and resiliency, pandemic recovery, and other CHAMPS activities. Caroline is a rising senior at the University of Colorado at Boulder and is expected to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in May 2024. She is also completing a minor in Business and a Certificate in Care, Health, and Resilience. Caroline recently spent a semester abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she was able to become immersed in the Danish culture and community. In her free time, Caroline enjoys skiing, reading, traveling, volunteering, and spending time with family and friends.
