CHAMPS REGION VIII HEALTH CENTER SALARY/BENEFITS SURVEY & REPORT

The CHAMPS Region VIII Health Center Salary, Benefits, Turnover, and Vacancy Survey and Reports project takes place every-other-year, and is planned, implemented, and compiled through collaborative efforts between CHAMPS and the Region VIII State Primary Care Associations (AUCH, CCHN, CHAD, MTPCA, and WYPCA). The resulting CHAMPS Region VIII Health Center Salary & Benefits Survey Report (Salary & Benefits Report) analyzes data for all identified clinical and non-clinical positions at participating Region VIII health centers, including information from large and small organizations from all Region VIII states in a variety of locations (rural, urban, frontier) and serving diverse populations (communities, migrants, homeless). Please refer to the CHAMPS Region VIII Health Center Salary Survey Companion Reports section of this page for more information about other reports resulting from this project.

CHAMPS Organizational Members are mailed one complimentary copy of the Salary & Benefits Report, and any health center submitting data for the project (regardless of membership status) also receives one complimentary copy.

CHAMPS Organizational Members may view and download an electronic versions of current and previous Salary & Benefits Reports in the Members Only section of the CHAMPS website (username and password required). These organizations plus other interested non-profits are welcome to order additional copies of the printed/bound Salary & Benefits Reports by completing and submitting the 2024 Region VIII Health Center Salary & Benefits Report Order Form.

An electronic version of the 2024 CHAMPS Region VIII Health Center Salary and Benefits Survey Report was released to CHAMPS Organizational Members as well as non-members that participated in the survey in early October 2024; the electronic version of the report is also posted in the Members Only section of the CHAMPS website (username and password required). A print version of the report was mailed to members and survey participants in November 2024. See below for information about available Companion Reports.

The 2025 CHAMPS Abbreviated Region VIII Health Center Salary, Benefits, and Turnover Survey will gather data in spring and early summer of 2025, allowing CHAMPS to provide up to date comparative compensation figures for a limited group of hard-to-recruit/retain titles and identify trends in employee turnover.

CHAMPS REGION VIII HEALTH CENTER SALARY SURVEY COMPANION REPORTS: WORKFORCE METRICS, CLINICAL STAFFING, AND PROVIDER PRODUCTIVITY EXPECTATIONS REPORTS

CHAMPS utilizes data submitted during the Region VIII Health Center Salary, Benefits, Turnover, and Vacancy Survey project described above to develop companion reports addressing workforce metrics, clinical staffing, and provider productivity expectations, released every other year.

  • The CHAMPS Region VIII Health Center Workforce Metrics Report includes an analysis of turnover rates, vacancy rates, and additional recruitment and retention (R&R) metrics like positions seeing challenging recruitment and/or turnover, tenure, and staff demographics.
  • The CHAMPS Region VIII Health Center Clinical Staffing Report utilizes Full-Time Equivalents (FTEs) data reported in the salary survey for every employee at each reporting Health Center to develop staffing ratios relating to Medical, Behavioral Health, and Dental Provider and Medical and Dental Support employees. The report also includes ratios related to additional selected administrative and clinical care team employees.
  • The CHAMPS Region VIII Health Center Provider Productivity Expectations Report includes information about health center expectations for weekly hours, administrative vs. patient contact hours ratio, completed hourly visits, and standard patient panel sizes for medical, dental, and behavioral health providers.

Copies of these reports are provided for free to to CHAMPS Organizational Members plus any non-members that participated in the survey.

CHAMPS undertakes Region VIII Health Center Recruitment & Retention Surveys and publishes related Reports on an as-needed basis to provide an analysis of data collected from staff members at all Region VIII Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC) Health Center Program grantees and look-alikes (primarily community, migrant, and homeless health centers). This project is undertaken in collaboration with the Region VIII State Primary Care Associations (SPCAs) to provide CHAMPS (the Region VIII PCA), the region’s SPCAs, and participating health centers with information vital to strengthening and enhancing successful recruitment and retention strategies already in place, and to developing new and innovative ways to support successful recruitment and retention of staff in an era of dynamic program expectations and ongoing challenges in finding, and keeping, highly qualified employees.

REGION VIII BPHC UNIFORM DATA SYSTEM (UDS) SUMMARIES

The Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC) gathers annual data from health centers across the country through the Uniform Data System (UDS). Since 2004, CHAMPS has compiled this information from across Region VIII to create an annual Region VIII BPHC UDS Summary providing a history of trends in selected Region VIII and national data as well as breakdowns of data by state, Region VIII, and nation for the current year. Beginning in 2013 CHAMPS also began releasing an annual two-page Health Center Fact Sheet highlighting key data from the summary, and in 2019 added an annual two-page Workforce Metrics Infographic focused on health professions training within health centers.
