SPECIAL POPULATIONS INTRODUCTION

Health centers are community-based organizations that serve populations with limited access to health care. Some health centers also receive specific funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to focus on certain special populations:

  • Migrant and Seasonal Farmworkers and their families
  • Persons experiencing homelessness
  • Residents of public housing

Visit the CHAMPS Community, Migrant, Homeless, & Public Housing Health Centers webpage to learn more about health centers.

HRSA also awards funding to organizations through National Training and Technical Assistance Partners Cooperative Agreements to provide training and technical assistance to the above special populations in addition to these vulnerable populations:

  • Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities
  • Aging populations
  • Extremely low-income individuals
  • Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Populations
  • School-aged children

National Training and Technical Assistance Partners also address a number of training areas that may affect special populations. These topics include:

  • Capital financing
  • Clinician recruitment and retention
  • Medical-legal partnership

Visit the CHAMPS National Training and Technical Assistance Partners (NTTAPs) webpage for links to organizations that receive this funding.

Visit HRSA’s National Training and Technical Assistance Partners webpage for additional information.
